Newsletter 258 March 2008
Dear Members,
There was no newsletter in February due to the untimely death of Louise
Neave.
Louise had written the newsletter for some time and was generally the
“unsung hero” of the monthly letter.
Our deepest sympathy goes to Charles and family on their sudden loss. We
are all saddened by this, Louise will be greatly missed. God bless.
I, David Frazer, hope to keep up the standard that Louise achieved, with a
little help from Bob, Dave and Roger and hopefully any snippits of
information that you can provide.
The February meeting was the Branch AGM, copies of the accounts were
circulated. The good news is that subs stay the same at £8 this year, for
those not at the AGM, copies of the annual accounts can be made available.
The committee was unchanged except for the Newsletter Editor (now me) from
March 2008.
It was suggested that for the branch contribution for the million mile
challenge, people may like to get their car sponsored to drive to Revesby
on 3rd Aug, The money will be going to Marie Curie as it is their 60th
anniversary as well. The Branch Charity continues to be this as well as we
have had close links for many years.
Those who attended the meeting were able to partake in a celebratory piece
of cake, as our car (Carol and David Frazer) RSK 902 was 50 years old.
Some say it looks it.
The March meeting was a general get together with all present being
invited to give a short talk on their first experiences of Morris Minors
and how they became involved. There were some amusing stories and
anecdotes to which we could all relate. My own story is somewhat simpler;
I had a Morris Minor in the 1960’s because I couldn’t afford anything
better. Times haven’t changed much!
April Meeting
Ray Newell, Secretary of MMOC National Committee, will give a general talk
on MM related issues.
He may also be available for “Book-Signing” of his latest publication -
Sixty Years on the Road.
Marie Curie Day – Saturday 8th March, City Square, Lincoln.
This was a good fundraising day, considering that the weather forecast was
poor.
This year the National club’s nominated charity is Marie Curie.
We collected £260 on Saturday for the “Daffodil Car” and £40 for the sale
of models, thanks to the generosity of the Lincoln shoppers, a tidy sum
considering that Marie Curie had their own collectors throughout the city
colleting a massive £774, making a total of over £1000 for the day, Well done to all who took part
The Charity Car is gradually being covered with Daffodil stickers with an
estimated 1400 stickers to date.
